Job Overview

The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Procure-to-Pay (P2P) is a senior-level position reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is the business owner and operational head of the university’s P2P functions. This is a unique opportunity to lead the transformation to a new, center-led P2P model that enhances operational efficiency, transparency, and strategic value across the university.

The AVP, P2P is responsible for the acquisition of all goods and services, leading a team of professionals across purchasing, contract management, strategic sourcing, travel, vendor management, Accounts Payable (AP), and payables technology systems. The AVP will develop and execute a strategic vision that drives efficiency, optimizes cost savings, and improves customer satisfaction. Key duties include:

  • Leading and mentoring high-performing, multimodal teams.

  • Providing strategic direction for all procurement activities, including strategic sourcing, competitive bidding, and contract negotiation.

  • Overseeing all disbursements and managing the university’s Procurement Card (P-Card) program.

  • Serving as the business owner for all P2P systems (e.g., GMS and AppZen), driving continuous system and process enhancements.

  • Leveraging data analytics to ensure all P2P decisions and performance monitoring are data-driven.

 

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

This role operates as a key member of the CFO’s management team, requiring a high degree of collaboration with university leadership and functional units across all campuses.

This position has been designated as Hybrid 2 Days. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related area.

  • 8 – 13 years of progressively responsible, related experience in Procurement, Accounts Payable, and/or Financial Management.

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory/managerial experience leading professional staff and managing organizational change.

  • Demonstrated advanced experience in drafting, negotiating, and administering complex business contracts.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, developing, and coordinating RFXs, contracts, and agreements for a multi-functional organization.

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability with managing contemporary procurement systems and processes in a large organization (e.g., Workday, or Banner).

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of general procurement practices, business and contract law, and federal procurement regulations and guidance.

  • Exceptional management skills to lead and develop a large department, including performance management, team building, and conflict resolution.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex analyses, formulate objective conclusions, and utilize data extraction and analytical tools (e.g., Google Suite) for operational decision-making.

  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, internal controls, and fiduciary responsibility in managing budgetary resources.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience with procurement interrelationships between all stakeholders: requestors, administrative functions, buying, receiving, disbursements, and suppliers.

  • Demonstrated strong and effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to negotiate with vendors and gain cooperation from diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of procurement and accounts payable practices in complex higher education and/or non-profit organizations is preferred

  • An advanced degree in business or a related area is strongly preferred.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$167,633.00 - $327,721.83

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
