Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Manager for the Protective Engineering (PE) Laboratory, part of the PECT Laboratory. In this key role, you will oversee lab operations, ensure equipment functionality, and drive innovation in structural and protective engineering research. You will also support teaching activities, manage resources effectively, and contribute to NTU's mission of advancing academic and technological excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Operations:

Oversee the daily operations of the Protective Engineering (PE) Laboratory, ensuring smooth functioning across equipment maintenance, inventory management, and adherence to safety standards.

  • Technical & Research Support:

Provide technical guidance and logistical support to faculty, researchers, and students in both teaching and research activities, ensuring experiments and projects are executed efficiently and safely.

  • Procurement & Budget Management:

Manage budgets, procurement, and maintenance contracts for laboratory equipment, consumables, and services — ensuring cost-effectiveness and optimal utilisation of resources.

  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

Facilitate cross-laboratory collaboration, sustainability initiatives, and process improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and innovation across CEE labs.

  • Safety & Compliance:

Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and accountability through regular training sessions, audits, and proactive risk management initiatives.

  • Project Assignments:

Undertake projects and duties as directed by the Lab-In-Charge, Head of Labs, Senior Administrator, and CEE Chair, contributing to broader school and institutional objectives.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification is advantageous but not essential.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory equipment, maintenance, and licensing regulations.

  • Proven experience in managing operations, safety protocols, and supporting diverse research and teaching needs.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in financial planning, budgeting, and resource management.

  • Outstanding communication and collaboration abilities, with a proactive and results-driven mindset.
