JOB PURPOSE: 

The Assistant Director of Operations plays a key role in ensuring the efficient functioning and compliance of the University Transportation Center (UTC)’s daily activities and supports research, education, technology transfer, and outreach goals related to transportation safety and innovation. 

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: 

NA 

NATURE AND SCOPE: 

Internal contacts include UTC research faculty and students, administrative staff, student workers, university finance and HR departments, and campus operations teams. External contacts include transportation agency partners, service contractors, government officials, vendors, technical consultants, and community and industry collaborators involved in projects or technology transfer 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Oversee day‐to‐day operational activities for the center, including research, logistics, scheduling, facility management, and compliance reporting. 
  • Manage budgets and resources, reconcile expenditures, and allocate funds for various projects. Supervise support staff, student workers, and support hiring, training, and evaluation processes. Implement and monitor procedures and regulations in line with university and federal requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments and external partners to address transportation program needs. 
  • Support grant research, reporting, technology transfer, and outreach initiatives, ensuring operational goals align with broader UTC objectives. 
  • Collect and analyze operational data, prepare reports, and recommend improvements for efficiency and effectiveness.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Master’s degree in civil engineering, transportation, computer science, or a related field. At least two years of professional experience. Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Experience supervising staff or student teams preferred. Knowledge of transportation systems and university operations is strongly desirable. Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and digital administrative tools.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

$75,000-$85,000
