Job Description Summary

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Development, School of Law, the Assistant Director of Development works to qualify, cultivate and solicit prospects identified as major gift donors and annual fund prospects for the School of Law’s priorities as outlined by the Dean. This position will provide direct development support of the annual fund, giving societies, major gifts ($50,000 - $500,000), alumni events, and support board and council strategy/management. The Assistant Director of Development works collaboratively with partners within University Advancement as well as within the School of Law to achieve high development results.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Manages a portfolio of 100-120 major gift prospects via a combination of substantive in-person and virtual visits that include qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for said prospects.

  • Solicits prospects for development priorities as outlined by the Dean, including law scholarships, faculty support, program support, and annual fund (Law Fund) five-year giving society commitments.

  • With support from the Assistant Dean, manages the law annual fund program and coordinates its components with the Wake Forest Fund team via marketing strategies, writing solicitation letters, serving as the lead on “day of giving” campaigns, 1:1 visits to prospects, alumni events, and student giving.

  • Liaises with the Law School’s Marketing and Communications team on marketing strategies for various funds that support the law school, with emphasis on the law fund.

  • Collaborates with Donor Experience and other University Advancement partners to ensure consistent, timely stewardship, including impact reports, acknowledgment letters, and recognition opportunities.

  • Assists the Assistant Dean for Development and the Director, Law Alumni Engagement in developing and implementing strategies designed to strengthen board and council engagement, including management of a board subcommittee group.

  • Coordinates events in key cities with Wake Community generalist partners to identify and onboard alumni volunteers to further the reach of the Law School alumni network.

  • Keeps updated and accurate fundraiser production measurements to track annual progress towards goals.

  • Manages various administrative duties such as P-Card receipt reconciliation and regular portfolio reviews.

  • Actively participates in professional development opportunities to strengthen major gift and donor relations skills.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of related development and alumni engagement experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge and proven history of gaining philanthropic support and financial commitments from others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in prioritizing workflow and managing resources.

  • Ability to manage and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate sound judgment and discretion.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google apps, and other relevant software.

  • Ability to research, collect, and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports.

  • Knowledge of the University policies and procedures, or ability to acquire knowledge in a short period.

  • Ability to be a team player and willingness to take initiative.

  • Ability to travel locally and nationally as necessary.

  • Ability to foster teamwork and cooperation in a work environment.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in prioritizing workflow and managing resources.

  • Experience in database management and maintenance.

  • Skill in fiscal management.

  • Detail-orientation in coordinating activities.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

  • Should be able to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance policy.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Previous experience in a non-profit or academic environment with evidence of specific skills, especially writing, event planning/coordination, organizational, volunteer management and customer service orientation relevant to the position.

  • Possesses an understanding of the donor cycle.

  • Experience in sales and marketing, or public relations.

Accountabilities:

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

Sedentary work primarily involving sitting/standing; communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. No adverse environmental conditions expected.
