Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Campus Life provides leadership for QuadWorks, two graduate assistants and other student activities and student organizations. QuadWorks is a comprehensive campus programming board that energizes, enlivens, and supports the development of the University community thereby enhancing student success and retention. The Assistant Director will provide guidance in the areas of program development, implementation and evaluation, publicity and promotion, team building, and budgeting for University activities while providing students with developmentally appropriate leadership opportunities. The Assistant Director will also provide support to the fraternity and sorority community at Mercer.
Duties:
Serve as advisor and primary staff support to the QuadWorks President, executive board, marketing chairs and committee chairs. This includes all campus wide co-sponsorship efforts and selection/training efforts of members. Current committees include Marketing, Games, VICE, Mercer Live and Special Events.
Provide direct advisement to a minimum of one fraternity and sorority council per year.
Co-manage Mercer’s fraternity and sorority system including; conduct trainings, oversee yearly chapter requirements, and assist with overall management of the chapters and councils.
Directly supervise two graduate assistant positions in the office through one on one meetings and project management and guidance of job responsibilities.
Oversight of Campus Life programs, as assigned. Programs include, Leadership Mercer, Freshman Leadership Fellows, and Order of Omega.
Provide guidance to student organizations in the development of social, educational, and cultural programs.
Serve as one of the department’s contracting facilitators for concerts, novelty acts, and lecturers.
Provide departmental oversight of marketing and promotion efforts of all campus life events.
Serve on university-wide committees as a representative of campus life and the division of student affairs when needed. (Wellness, Assessment, Professional development)
Manage the QuadWorks budget and assist with the primary budgeting mechanisms for the Office of Campus Life.
Oversee the coordination of major campus-wide events such as Homecoming Week and BearStock and all large-scale Quadworks events
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of departments, academic and non-academic alike, on campus. Demonstrate and encourage regular collaboration between campus departments and student organizations
Assist in coordinating and staffing campus traditions, to include, Homecoming, Pilgrimage to Penfield, Family Weekend, Bear Fair, athletic bus trips, and Founders' Day and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field from an accredited college/university and some related experience in student affairs or related field are required. One year of experience in student advising, leadership development, student activities planning, and fiscal management is preferred. Prior experience in Student Activities and fraternity and sororities in a College or University setting is also preferred. A demonstrated commitment to community development within the campus environment is essential.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently.
An understanding of student developmental theory.
Ability to work non-traditional hours; nights and weekends when required.
