POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Director of Strategic Communications.

The Assistant Director of Communications will serve as the primary communications and social media contact for field hockey, women’s lacrosse and women’s gymnastics. This position will also serve as the secondary women’s basketball contact.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic Communications: manage website and administer social media platforms for assigned sports; develop written content (features and press releases); perform traditional strategic communications functions such as coordinating media interviews, developing game notes, pitching stories to local media; assist with awards nominations for student-athletes and athletics staff; develop record books for assigned sports.
  • Game management: issue and distribute media credentials for assigned sports; conduct postgame press conferences; manage press box and coordinate with marketing, event management and LionVision groups; coordinate live updates to media and fans via live stats and social media platforms.
  • Statistics: run stats programs for assigned sports; keep stats during competitions and maintain statistical records throughout the season; provide stats to media, coaches and opponents throughout the season.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Spark, etc.), website content management systems, social media platforms and Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats is preferred.
  • Experience in photography, recording and editing video is desired.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are also required.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance is required.
  • Position requires considerable initiative, creativity and independence.
  • Work-related experience in communications or public relations is required.
     

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or a related field.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Marketing and Communications Specialist - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Marketing and Communications Specialist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

 

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

 

 

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $74,000.00.
