What is The Role

Kibana is the UI and frontend for everything we do at Elastic. It is the application platform that powers our Elastic Observability, Security, and Search Solutions. It provides building blocks and user experiences that delight our users, accelerate development, and optimize our operations. Deployed both in the cloud and on-premises, it is one of the largest open-source projects, used to answer millions of complex questions with large data sets at scale.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join the Analyst Experience team within Kibana. This group builds reusable analytics components for data visualization and seamless data exploration, helping our users to get insights from data and investigate root causes.

In this role, you will guide a team of engineers, define technical direction, and partner closely with design and product leaders. You will cultivate a culture of ownership, thoughtful execution, and consistent delivery.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Manage, mentor, and lead a globally distributed team of engineers with diverse experience levels.
  • Lead the efficient delivery for time-boxed software releases, ensuring high quality and innovative feature development.
  • Build roadmaps and lead prioritization; balance the right amount of structure and planning for a fast-paced engineering team.
  • Work with our Product Management team to ensure requirements and the “why” are clear.
  • Foster a culture of mutual respect and collaborative decision-making.
  • Work with technical leaders to advocate for critical tech debt and balance with the product roadmap.
  • Promote knowledge sharing with the team, organization, and community.
  • Support development and training through regular coaching and performance evaluations.
  • Identify staffing requirements and help drive recruitment of high-quality colleagues.

  • Experience leading distributed teams (~6 people).
  • Real passion for UX, design, and achieving excellence.
  • Collaborative style, open communicator, strong written and spoken English.
  • Self-motivated, good attention to detail, and highly organized.
  • Your heart in the right place, a good sense of humour, and a genuine interest in the people you work with.
