APAC Payroll Manager

CITY OF LONDON, Full time

About this role:

Wells Fargo is establishing a new APAC Payroll hub at their London Office and is seeking an experienced APAC Payroll Manager to join the global payroll team. This role is critical in providing direction on payroll activities for approximately 800 employees across 8 countries.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading multi-country payroll operations and a passion for creating compliant and efficient payroll processes. Key responsibilities include:

- Overseeing day-to-day payroll operations within the APAC region

- Managing vendor contracts and relationships

- Driving process standardization, automation, and improvements in payroll controls

- Supporting the implementation of existing and new pay programs and related projects

This position offers an opportunity to play a vital role in enhancing payroll operations within a dynamic environment.

Reports directly to the HR Service Delivery Director.


In this role, you will:

  • Oversee and manage end-to-end payroll processing for all APAC countries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. This includes processing salaries, bonuses, and other incentive payouts.

  • Ensure all payroll activities comply with local statutory, tax labour laws, preparing for year-end compliance reporting and leading payroll audits.

  • Manage partnerships with existing and future third-party vendors to ensure effective service delivery.

    Stakeholder collaboration: Partner with internal teams like HR, Finance, and Legal to ensure accurate reporting and resolve issues.

  • Drive process improvements, implement new systems, and look for opportunities to automate and increase efficiency. Ensure compliance with all corporate and country-specific policies and procedures. Drive controls and operational excellence. Ensure local process design supports fiscal and regulatory compliance.

  • Serve as a point of contact for employees, addressing payroll queries and providing support in a prompt manner.

  • Coach, mentor and provide leadership development to team members to optimize operational excellence and build a deeper bench of talent.

  • Manage payroll-related projects, such as onboarding new entities, implementing new pay programs, or system enhancements.

    Maximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement and change initiatives.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and ensuring on-time statutory filings.

  • Provide audit and oversight to the team’s activities and processes, ensuring compliance and government interaction standards are met.

  • Extensive experience in APAC payroll, ideally with a background in a multinational corporation or regional role.

  • Strong knowledge of APAC payroll regulations, tax laws, and benefits administration.

Required Qualifications for APAC only:

  • Experience in APAC Payroll, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following work experience, training, education.

  • Highly experienced in multi-country payroll experience and strong leadership skills required.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Deep knowledge and experience with payroll vendors and platform technologies - Cloudpay and Workday.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to influence.

  • Ability to work effectively across all levels in matrix organizations.

  • Experience transforming a manual payroll function to a scalable and efficient one.

  • Fluency in English.
