About the Hiscox Data Team

The Hiscox Data Team is transforming data maturity across the organization to accelerate business growth and efficiency using Data, Analytics, and AI. The virtual team consists of a central function driving alignment, Business Unit teams identifying commercial value and providing execution capacity and technology providing for Data Engineering and ML Operations services.

The Role:

Hiscox US is seeking an Analytics Engineer with experience designing, developing, and supporting data analytics capabilities and reports to join our US Data team. The Analytics Engineer will:

  • Contribute to analytics capability development and asset growth while helping turn insights into action
  • Design solutions that are scalable and consider end-to-end dependencies, keeping overall value and impact in mind
  • Deliver projects in alignment with strategy, including building semantic models, data visualization, self-service analytics, standardized reporting, and user support for analytics applications
  • Support usability of analytics and reporting through consistency, efficiency, relevancy, availability, quality, compliance, and governance
  • Assist with data discovery and improving data accessibility
  • Promote user adoption and provide ongoing support

The role involves collaborating with business units to understand business needs and strategies, gathering requirements for reporting and analytics, and helping identify and track key KPIs/OKRs and user activity to ensure solutions meet business objectives. Analytics Engineers at this level should have a solid foundation in data visualization and analysis using SQL and analytics tools, and be able to assess large datasets and build effective reports and analytics capabilities to communicate actionable insights. They should also be comfortable explaining their tools and findings to business stakeholders and supporting the evolution of analytics capabilities.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design and develop clear data visualization and analytics products using Power BI, DAX, DBT, TMDL, SQL, and other analytics and modeling tools
  • Map and model data for self-service and scheduled reports
  • Conduct quality control and record-keeping to ensure data integrity
  • Manage and respond to end-user requests, troubleshooting data issues as needed
  • Assist in developing training materials and delivering training on Power BI and other analytics tools
  • Research and implement best practices and procedures related to performance, governance, and standards
  • Apply data visualization and analytics best practices
  • Support enterprise-level solutions and development approaches in visualization (such as automation and version control)
  • Analyze data and collaborate with business experts, management, and team members to address business challenges
  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements, document, and help implement solution designs
  • Ensure deliverables meet functional, technical, and performance requirements
  • Participate in the Analytics Center of Excellence and support business needs across the enterprise, including consultation, assistance, and training
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and evolution of tools, capabilities, and processes to maintain alignment with business strategies

Ideal Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience developing analytics capabilities (including self-service), models, and reports using tools like Power BI
  • Experience building semantic models, dashboards, and apps using Power BI, with exposure to server features (such as Embedded analytics and row-level security)
  • Solid SQL skills and understanding of data warehousing, architecture, ETL processes, and related tools (such as DBT and SSIS)
  • Ability to present data insights to different audiences, including management and executives
  • Experience with reporting tools sourcing from semantic models and cloud-based data warehouses/lakehouses (e.g., Databricks)
  • Ability to understand business context and translate it into effective data analysis and presentation

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, R, SAS, web services)
  • Exposure to advanced analytics techniques (such as using open library models)
  • Insurance domain experience with problem-solving and industry solution delivery
  • Experience with data architecture or solution architecture is a plus

Please note this position is hybrid and requires working in our office in Atlanta, GA two (2) days per week.

Salary range: $100k-$130k

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
