The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly analytical, collaborative, and technically proficient Environmental Compliance Analyst to support emissions forecasting, emission credit strategy, and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in environmental policy, carbon markets, and data modeling, who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and consistently delivers under tight deadlines. This position support all our Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines assets in alignment with overarching Commercial Strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain emission costs forecasting and modeling
  • Maintain and manage the Canada Gas emission credits database across multiple jurisdictions
  • Support in emission credits and compliance instruments procurement process
  • Assist with annual emissions compliance activities across all jurisdictions
  • Conduct emission credit market analysis at national and sub-national levels
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional teams on emissions strategy and compliance related activities
  • Develop and refine economic models and market fundamentals analysis for various environmental commodities, such as carbon offsets, and Emission Performance Credits (EPCs)
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and visualizations to track emissions forecasts, credit market trends, and compliance performance
  • Participate in Government-led auctions to procure compliance instruments, such as emission allowance, needed for compliance in cap-and-trade jurisdictions
  • Manage projects, consultant work, schedules and budgets as needed
  • Monitor, analyze and communicate implications of emerging climate change policy developments that impact the Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines assets

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Economics, Environmental Science or related fields
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in related work such as: environmental policy, sustainability, regulatory, air emissions and greenhouse gas reporting, or commercial.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of environmental laws/regulations and practices pertaining to the energy sector
  • Working knowledge of Alberta Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction Regulation (TIER) and other similar emission management legislations
  • Emission credits transactions experience
  • Experience working with federal and provincial regulatory agencies
  • Strong networking, communication and interpersonal skills, possess the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Advanced working knowledge of SAP, Excel; Power BI is considered an asset
  • Advanced analytical ability to gather and evaluate complex information obtained from a variety of sources
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve complex and ambiguous issues
  • Specific experience in environmental risk management, climate change regulatory and policy issues considered an asset
