The Pediatrics Department at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital is recruiting a full-time advanced practice provider (APP) to join their palliative and complex care teams. This APP will support our Care Always Neonatal-Perinatal Palliative Care team primarily providing inpatient consultation to neonates and their families who have life-limiting diagnoses, have delivered peri-viably, or who are expected to survive with complex medical needs. This APP will also work with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social worker and a patient navigator of the Pediatric Enhanced Care Program to provide clinical care for children with medical complexity in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The APP should be able to care for patients spanning the entire pediatric age range with a variety of diagnoses and will collaborate with specialties across the health system. Our teams work together to ensure consistent messaging regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and options for management as well as to support the family in shared decision making to achieve goals of care and optimization of quality of life. There are many opportunities to pursue academic interests in education, quality improvement, outreach, and research. Position would be a 5-day work week model.

What You'll Do:

As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA/NP will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in medical settings.

Primary areas of focus will be:

  • Assist in management of pediatric palliative care and medically complex children
  • Using medical decision-making skills to determine appropriate patient care plan.
  • Collaborates with medical team when needed for effective team-based care.
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Completing daily rounds for patients on service
  • Inpatient consults
  • Assist in recommendation orders to primary teams
  • Facilitating complex discharges
  • Providing patient and family education
  • Participation in trach vent clinic
  • Coordinating other necessary consulting services (e.g. speech, nutrition, neurology, PT/OT)
  • Direct communication to PCPs and other outpatient providers

Other duties

  • Participate in quality improvement and research projects

Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree preferred
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements:

  • Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Master's Program, Master's degree or higher required
  • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license

Certification

PA-C or PNP-AC
