The employee will be responsible for the medical management of the PM&R patient population within the scope of an Advanced Practice Provider. The term Advanced Practice Provider encompasses Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Nurse Specialists. The employee will have successfully completed a Master’s degree (or higher level of educational program) and have met the requirements for the respective State Board(s) (Missouri and Kansas). The APP will hold and maintain a national certification and licensure as required by State Boards and Saint Luke’s Health System, as well as other certification as obligatory for this role.
The PM&R APP will be expected to participate in the general medical and rehab management of the patient with debility, stroke, traumatic head injury, orthopedic injury (among other disease process).
Skills required of this role will include but may not be limited to the following:
• utilizes prescriptive authority in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations
• obtains and documents relevant problem focused or comprehensive history from patient/medical records in a timely manner
• communicates effectively using appropriate terminology, format, and technology in accordance health system policies
• analyzes data to determine health status
• communicates effectively with other healthcare professionals
• performs an accurate physical exam
• demonstrates basic science and up to date clinical knowledge
• establishes a patient relationship characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration
• takes initiative for seeking opportunities to advance knowledge and experiences
• complete thorough patient assessments to identify patients for potential admission
• complete detailed preadmission screens in compliance with payor requirements and ensure Physiatrist confirmation prior to admission
• serves as the main admission contact for the rehabilitation team, internal admit team and clients
• flexibility with scheduled rotations/locations as needed to ensure patient needs are met
Role duties may include but are not limited to:
• Completion of admissions, consultations, subsequent day visits and discharges in the inpatient setting.
• Independent practice in the inpatient setting and collaborating with physician(s) as appropriate.
• Ordering and management of appropriate laboratory, diagnostic studies and therapies.
• This role may require training and competency for procedures applicable to the department of hire.
