The Role
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of material planning and execution at GM Defense. You will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing material strategies within GA assembly, collaborating with cross-functional teams to establish efficient, lean material flows. The goal is to operate as One Team in driving cohesive material strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and aligning with the long-term Material and LMS (Lean Material Strategy) vision for current production facilities and future expansions.
Planning and supporting the execution of plant-wide lean material strategies, including:
Material flow and routing
Storage space requirements
Mobile equipment planning
Layout development
Kitting and small lot strategies
Sequencing and PFEP (Plan for Every Part)
This role encompasses not only the internal operations within the plant’s four walls but also integrates external considerations to ensure a holistic material strategy.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
Creation of novel solutions to complex problems relating to a low volume, high variety, small footprint production.
Creation of a material flow concept focusing on core principles of flexibility, scalability, and low cost
Plan and execute new warehouse facilities
Creation of the 4 Walls Material Plan For Every Part (PFEP)
Definition of the sequence of deliveries of material to the production line
Planning of lineside presentation plan strategy (Direct to Line, Flow Rack, Kitting)
Supporting the Supply Chain team in Bank planning, including non-standardized delivery sequences in addition to regular delivery cadence
Definition, Scoping, Quote Gathering, Procurement, and Deployment of all plant material equipment necessary for a successful program launch (Flow Racking, Kit Carts, Bins, Containers, High Bay racking, etc.)
Definition and procurement of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) working alongside GM LLC resources.
Creation of kit cart plans and kitting requirements including detailed slotting plans
Definition of kit cart loops, and level loading plans
Layout planning of the relevant material storage areas High Bay, Bulk Floor, Material Kitting, and Gantry areas
Initial planning and allocation of parts to planned locations (DLOC/ULOC)
Manage Facility layouts, working closely with all facets of the plant to coordinate, create, review, and maintain all plant auto cad layouts -ensuring layout efficiency as well as future space protection.
Planning, direction, definition of dock turn strategies (ensuring dock capacitation and equipment aligned)
Definition of IT requirements necessary to execute plan vision
Definition of material storage plan and process for managing GMD part Sustainment orders.
Supervising the creation and maintenance of GMOS studies
Definition of future material space requirements based on very broad high level data streams
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's Degree (Material, Packaging, Industrial) or equivalent work experience
3+ years of experience in advance material planning
U.S. citizenship required to comply with federal government contract provision expressly restricting role to U.S. citizens
Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
Expertise in Lean Material Strategy (LMS) principles
Technical knowledge and ability in GMS principles
Develop & track to Master Dot milestones & Deliverables
Proficient with AutoCAD, Factory cad or equivalent, MS-Office tools (Excel, Access, Project, Word, and Powerpoint)
Knowledge of the Global Launch Process and Vehicle Development Process.
Demonstrate excellent level of analytical ability, communication and people skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
Elevated level of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills ensuring the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Material Launch Experience
SAP knowledge in shopping cart creation through invoice approvals
Warehouse planning and execution experience
