About International House:

Founded in 1930 through a gift from John D. Rockefeller, Jr., International House (I-House) is a self-supporting, not-for-profit, residential, and community-oriented facility located at the foothills of the University of California Berkeley Campus. Since its founding, International House has housed more than 95,000 residents including two Governors of California, eight Nobel Prize laureates, civil rights, and free speech advocates, ambassadors, business leaders, and royalty…just to name a few.

Each year I-House provides some 1,100 students and scholars from 75+ nationalities (including the USA) with an opportunity to live and learn together in an inclusive and safe environment, over the course of a typical 12-month cycle. Position Summary: 

The Admissions and Financial Aid Advisor plays a key role in supporting prospective and current residents throughout the admissions and financial aid processes. This position serves as a frontline contact for applicants, providing guidance on application requirements, eligibility, timelines, and scholarship opportunities. The role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to equity, and student success.

Key Responsibilities: 

Admissions Support (50%)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective applicants via email, phone, and in-person inquiries, providing timely, accurate, and supportive guidance.
  • Guide applicants through the housing admissions process, including application submission, document collection, and contract review.
  • Review, update, and verify the accuracy and completeness of applicant records to ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Support the development and delivery of admissions communications, including email templates, notifications, and informational materials.
  • Collaborate with internal departments as needed.
  • Participate in system testing and provide feedback on application platform enhancements to improve functionality, accessibility, and the overall user experience.

Financial Aid Support (30%)

  • Serve as the primary contact for all financial aid inquiries, offering clear guidance and timely support throughout the application process.
  • Review financial aid applications for completeness and assist with preliminary eligibility checks.
  • Manage documentation tracking, support award letter preparation, and ensure deadline compliance.
  • Collaborate with Philanthropy and Marketing to develop materials for donors and prospective applicants.
  • Communicate with recipients regarding required documentation and status updates.

Outreach and Engagement (20%)

  • Represent I-House at outreach and promotional events, including delivering public presentations, tabling at fairs, and other recruitment-related functions.
  • Identify and recommend new outreach opportunities and promotional events to increase applicant engagement and visibility.
  • Support data collection and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in special projects as needed to improve the admissions and financial aid experience.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in admissions, financial aid, student services, housing, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service, with a patient solution-oriented, and empathetic approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working with student databases or CRM systems.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equitable access in housing and education.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Experience working with international students or in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Canva, Mailchimp, and Power BI.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: $70,000-$75,000/year.
  • I-House also offers a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% employer-covered premium (dependent on plan selection),
