The Opportunity:
As the Administrative Assistant 2 for External Affairs & Government Relations, you will provide direct administrative support to the Director of Federal Relations, Director of Health Sciences Policy and Advocacy, and Assistant Director of Federal Relations. You will serve as the primary administrative point of contact, and handle complex and confidential matters involving external constituencies, including Washington State University (WSU) units across Pullman and statewide, as well as federal, state, county, and local government agencies, and the broader community.
Your role supports the Directors and Assistant Director across a wide range of responsibilities tied to the operations and initiatives of the federal relations and health sciences policy office. Your key duties include scheduling and coordinating congressional visits, preparing briefing materials, managing calendars and travel logistics, and tracking follow-up actions from stakeholder engagements. You also assist with organizing meetings, drafting correspondence, and maintaining accurate records of policy-related activities. Success in this position requires a high level of professionalism, sound independent judgment, discretion, and strong organizational skills in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
This position can be located in Spokane, WA or Pullman, WA.

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,665 to $4,882 | Range 41 Steps A - M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years of clerical, office or administrative experience; OR one (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant 1. Equivalent education/experience.
Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, fostering respectful and collaborative relationships.
Professional experience demonstrating the ability to thrive under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; proactively organize and prioritize multiple tasks and projects with precision; adapt to interruptions while consistently meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality service to a diverse range of constituents.
Demonstrated skills in organizing and articulating ideas through both oral and written communication, with experience composing and refining professional correspondence and documentation.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing complex administrative oversight and assistance to an office, preferable in a higher education, public sector or government relations environment, and ability to work well as part of a team.
Work experience that demonstrates competency, proficiency, and accuracy using software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
