Job Summary:

Seeking candidates for the adjunct teaching position in Child Development to teach one or more courses in the area of child development. A commitment to excellent teaching at the undergraduate level in a Christian liberal arts context and possessing a potential for scholarship and service is essential for a successful candidate. There is anticipation of several child development courses available for an adjunct professor. The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available. When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the program director will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc.

Salary:
PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $5,013 - $6,684. The units will determine the actual salary.

Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Adjuncts must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching adult students. Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.

  • Design online and/or face-to-face

  • Invest in students

  • Participate in institution activities as appropriate


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D., Ed.D., (preferred), M.A. in field of child development or similar degree

  • Instructional Design education and experience

  • Adult teaching experience

  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement

  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education. Desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.

  • Potential for outstanding course design

  • Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.

Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicant will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
