The Accounting Technician provides key administrative support as part of the Business Services team in the Moody College of Communication. This position requires the use of initiative and judgment, as well as accounting expertise coupled with strong customer service skills and time management. This position serves as a member of a team of business professionals supporting a wide range of academic and administrative departments, along with centers and institutes across the College.
Act as the central processor for all Moody College of Communication travel requests and reimbursements. Process travel requests and reimbursement vouchers with appropriate documentation in a timely manner with minimal errors. Track documents through all stages of receiving, processing, and filing. Ensure departments and units comply with Moody College of Communication and University policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations. Research, evaluate and resolve payment issues and inquiries, as needed. Provide consistent, timely and reliable communications via email or other mediums.
Act as a backup reviewer and approver for the Business Services Office. Review/reconcile web-based billings and charges. Review and approve documents and vouchers (including procurement cards, office supply orders, entertainment, travel, etc.). Ensure departments and units comply with Moody College of Communication and University policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations and provides feedback on incorrect document processing.
Act as a backup processor for departments and CIPS as needed. Process payment and reimbursement vouchers with appropriate documentation in a timely manner with minimal errors. Prepare purchase orders, payment vouchers, travel vouchers, and other accounting documents using DEFINE and web-based systems. Process and audit for final approval Purchase Orders, RTAs, and other pre-payment type of accounting documents. Track documents through all stages of receiving, reconciling, and filing. Process payment vouchers in a timely manner according to the State's Prompt Payment Act.
Ensure departments and units comply with Moody College of Communication and University policy and procedures and provide consistent, timely, and reliable communications via email or other mediums to the Dean’s Office, departments, CIPS, vendors, etc.
Process account transfers and correction of charges as directed.
Other related functions as assigned.
College-level course work or training in business management, accounting, or bookkeeping.
Four years of business management, accounting, or bookkeeping experience.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service and previous experience in a customer-oriented environment.
Professional verbal and written communication.
Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multitask in an environment with frequent interruptions.
Basic knowledge of MS Suite (Word, Excel) and use of a computer, printer, and fax machine.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
More than four years of business management, accounting, or bookkeeping experience.
More than three years of experience with University of Texas travel reimbursements and all other travel policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience with the University of Texas payment processing, financial systems, and accounting procedures.
Knowledge of the University’s procurement, payment, and audit processes. Proficiency in the Request System, Point Plus, UT Market, DEFINE, MS Suite.
$42,000 + depending on qualifications
Monday – Friday, flexible between 7AM – 6PM.
Hybrid work arrangements are available, subject to continued administrative approval and business needs. Occasional overtime required based on business need.
This position will work in a shared office environment with standard office conditions and require repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
Final candidate will be required to pass a background check prior to starting employment. UT Austin is a tobacco-free campus.
