Our Role 

 

We are seeking an experienced and passionate 3D Product Designer to join our Wedgwood & Royal Doulton design team. You’ll need to be fanatical about ceramics, with a highly energised creative mind, strong technical knowledge and a passion for craft & materials. You will bring meticulous attention to detail and apply your skills to develop original concepts for tableware, glassware, interior pieces and sculptural work. You will play a pivotal role in transforming story-led concepts into robust products ready for production and distribution. Collaborating closely with the Design Director/Design Team Lead and the wider design team, you will operate across multiple product categories and materials, thriving in a small, dynamic team within a larger organisation. 

 

 

What you’ll be doing 

 

  • Creating pioneering, original, and dynamic designs for new and existing product collections in line with the Creative Vision 

  • Developing advanced 3D models with excellent proficiency in Rhino, as well as freehand sketching to explore and communicate design concepts 

  • Producing low and high-fidelity prototypes, from handcrafted methods to rapid prototyping and creating photorealistic renders using KeyShot and AI-based software tools. 

  • Communicating and presenting design concepts to key stakeholders with confidence 

  • Preparing detailed specification packs for costings and development handover 

  • Refining designs for manufacturing, drafting specifications, and making informed design decisions, collaborating closely with suppliers and internal factories 

  • Feedback on proofs and prototypes when required, with the relevant amount of detailed information 

  • Working as part of a collaborative and creative team, based at our Barlaston office 

 

Who you are

 

  • Someone who is interested in art and culture, always seeking inspiration and enjoys the storytelling element of Design. Appreciation for artisans and craftmanship is essential. 

  • A keen researcher who can find genuine and original inspiration, with a self-motivated drive to generate big ideas 

  • Someone who is hands on and enjoys the marriage of design and craft, whilst using their natural design acumen to problem solve and initiate creative solutions 

  • Able to lead design projects from conceptual thinking, ideating, design iterations to implementation 

  • Highly innovative, story-led designer who understands how to create products that resonate with consumers 

  • Skilled in balancing multiple stakeholder inputs and delivering quality to agreed timelines and standards 

  • Detail-oriented, impeccable attention to detail 

  • Highly skilled and proficient in digital design tools. Skilled at using multiple prototyping methodologies including hand modelling and digital. 

  • Experienced in working closely with suppliers, manufacturing processes, and materials 

  • Excellent communicator, and able to articulate ideas both verbally and visually 

  • Strong time management and organisational skills, able to set goals and priorities 

  • University educated within Product/Industrial design, or a relevant design field 

  • 5–10 year’s experienced in a design environment
