As a part of Global Chemistry, we apply innovative synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry principles and techniques in the preparation of biologically active molecules with druglike properties, in collaboration with the DDUs and platform groups within Takeda Research.
As part of the discovery chemistry group within Global Chemistry, the Summer Intern will gain professional hands-on experience with an extensive overview of the pharmaceutical industry. An understanding of synthetic organic chemistry with laboratory experience is expected.
How You Will Contribute:
As a Medicinal Chemistry Intern, you will have the opportunity to…
• Work closely with a medicinal chemist to execute the design, synthesis, purification and characterization of novel chemical compounds for drug discovery efforts. Role is focused on small molecules in Oncology Drug Discovery Unit.
• Maintains a well-organized and up-to-date Electronic Lab Notebook
• Regularly prepares and provides comprehensive presentations of work at internal chemistry project meetings
Internship Development Opportunities:
Utilize state-of-the-art methodologies (including but not limited to electrochemistry, photochemistry, high throughput experimentation, etc.) to problem-solve and develop synthetic routes to key pharmaceutical targets.
Learn and apply medicinal chemistry techniques to design and improve physiochemical properties of compounds.
Strengthen scientific communication skills by presenting research at weekly group meetings to chemists and a wider audience.
Job Requirements:
This position will be Fully Onsite (4+ days/week in office) out of the Cambridge, Massachusetts location
Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
Undergraduate student with completion of a minimum of one year of university studies
Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship with Takeda
College coursework for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, including accompanying laboratory work, must have been completed
Internship Eligibility
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later
The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (May 26th-August 14th or June 15th- August 21st)
The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames
Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates
Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

$21.00 - $46.00
The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship. The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
