This Role:
Simtra is seeking highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students for our Summer Internship Program. We look for diverse students with inquisitive minds and the desire to challenge themselves. Our interns work closely with industry professionals and learn quickly how to problem solve on real-world projects that contribute to clinical research and manufacturing processes. In addition to on-the-job experience, we offer learning sessions with top leadership, site visits to local projects and social events.

 

The Opportunity:
The Environmental, Health, Safety, & Sustainability (EHS&S) team focuses on protecting company's people, product, facilities, and environment. These teams deal with the physical security, information security, risk management, and regulatory compliance in a highly regulated environment.

 

Responsibilities/Projects:
The intern will assist the EHS&S teams with physical security assessments of the pharmaceutical manufacturing, packaging, and staging facilities, including access control and surveillance.  They will support the planning of safety and security, including insider and external threats and assist in the development and review of security policies, emergency response plans, and crisis management procedures. The intern will also assist with compliance programs, safety initiatives, and sustainability projects within a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) sterile manufacturing facility. The intern will gain exposure to real-world EHS operations, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS or MS degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • Enrolled as a Junior, Senior, or graduate student
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and ISA 14001/45001 standards
  • Strong attention to detail including the ability to accomplish a task while demonstrating a thorough concern for all the areas involved
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others in a proactive, positive and constructive manner
  • Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

 

 

Physical/Safety Requirements:

  • Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends
  • Position requires sitting for long hours, but may also involve walking or standing for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs overhead
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required
  • Climbing, ascending, or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
  • Stooping, bending body downward and forward by spine at the waist
  • Ability to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as extreme cold or hot conditions when evaluating storage environments)
