2026 Summer Intern - Translational Medicine OMNI

Department Summary

The Translational Medicine department at Genentech provides translational research to inform clinical development in disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (TM-OMNI). Our research encompasses cutting edge support of clinical biomarker discovery and development, development of personalized healthcare strategies, and clinical translational research to study the molecular and cellular pathways driving disease to generate novel target and biomarker approaches.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.  

The Opportunity

This internship offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated PhD candidate with a background in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, immunology, neuroimmunology, or a related field. The intern will gain hands-on experience on analysis of proteomics data within the context of multiple sclerosis research. Working closely with our multidisciplinary team, the intern will contribute to advancing our translational research efforts in multiple sclerosis.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education:

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).  

Required Majors: Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Immunology or Neuroimmunology.

Required Skills

  • Data Analysis Expertise: Proven experience with data analysis, ideally involving proteomics, transcriptomics, or other high-dimensional omics datasets.

  • Statistical and Computational Methods: Solid understanding of multivariate statistics, dimensionality reduction, and integrative approaches for combining molecular and clinical datasets.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams spanning discovery, clinical, and computational research.

  • Problem-Solving Orientation: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to explore innovative analytical solutions in translational biomarker research.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
