2026 Summer Intern - Large Molecule Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology
Department Summary
The Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology (BCP) team operates in a collaborative and high-paced environment. Our core function is to develop and implement relevant, quantitative biochemical and cellular assays and experiments that directly support Genentech's biological and small molecule drug discovery initiatives. Through rigorous, scholarly methodology, we serve as integrated members of multi-disciplinary teams, characterizing optimal leads and establishing the in vitro biological strategies essential for advancing Genentech's Discovery pipeline of therapeutic antibodies and small molecule clinical candidates.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On-site.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing complex 3D in vitro models and conducting functional assays using primary human cells. They will also gain hands-on experience with microfluidics and modern automation technologies for high-throughput applications.
Key learning opportunities include performing assays in pharmaceutical settings, utilizing technologies such as gene expression analysis, cytokine/chemokine screening, and a variety of biochemical assay readouts.
Regular presentation of weekly data to project teams to track progress.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are (Required)
Required Education:
You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).
Required Majors:
Major in pharmacology, biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
Required Skills:
Prior wet lab experience is essential, preferably with routine laboratory biochemical assays or similar techniques.
Aseptic techniques and cell culture experience are essential.
Isolation and culture of primary cells are preferred.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $26.00-$33.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
